FEATURE ARTICLE: Presenting... Staghorn Red!!!
-------------------------------------------------

Thanks to everyone who attended our Fall Harvest Festival! Turnout was twice as high as our first festival and we had a great time meeting so many of our customers and hearing your comments about our wines.

Sadly, the Staghorn Red wine we promised you, simply did not get finished in time to serve at the Fall event. However, the Staghorn Red is finally available! So far, we have only released five cases of this unique wine to test its popularity.

Its culinary use was primarily to make a refreshing
tart drink, reminiscent of lemonade and often called
"Indian lemonade."

We will be eagerly seeking the input of our winery visitors to determine if this unusual variety will become a permanent part of the Nuyaka Creek Winery wine list.

Although the weather has been rather cold and gray lately, you can expect to see a stirring display of Fall colors on the road to the winery...and nothing warms like wine!

So come on out this weekend and let us know what you think! While you are here check out our Oklahoma Wine Gift Baskets. A unique holiday gift with...taste

NEW Vintages
------------------------------------------------

Nuyaka Creek Winery Staghorn Red

Staghorn Red is made from the fruit of a native shrub common in this area.

It was often employed medicinally by
several North American Indian tribes who valued it
especially for its astringent qualities and for cough
remedies. I think you will be surprised when you taste what can be done with this widespread Oklahoma pasture pest.

This wine has a flavor very similar to plum wine, but
with a unique combination of sweetness and tartness.

Stay tuned to our wine list page for new vintages.

*-----------Grape Grower TIP----------------*

Plant wine grape vines in late winter or
early spring as soon as soil can be worked.
Early-set plants are more able to
withstand summer weather extremes.

Wine Trivia

The first commercial U.S. winery, established in 1823, was located in Missouri.

*-----------Grape Grower TIP----------------*

Grapes do not require direct sunlight on
the berries for color development.
Color development is governed by the amount
of sugars produced by the leaves and
translocated to the fruit.
The leaves do need sunlight to produce the sugars.

Try our Resources page to learn more about wine, grapes and cultivation.

we don't eat."
